at Sele Messy Church...

Messy Feb 2017 craft cropIn February, we thought about how we worry and how God can help us not to worry. We also remembered our blessings - all the things that we are fortunate to have. Some of the crafts we made included a flower and a worry doll (pictured left).

January's Messy Church focussed on the story of 'The Man Through the Roof', the paralysed man who was lowered down into the house to meet Jesus. Among the crafts, we made a detailed model of the house (see some fantastic examples in the photo) and created a colourful woven mat!

MessyNoahAnimalsNov2016bOur November theme was ‘Noah’ and how our loving God is a God of second chances. We experienced what it might have been like to be aboard the ark with all the animals! Our crafts included creating animals for the ark (right), a rainmaker and food for our journey. Plus, we added splats of paint to our big Bible board, which is really taking shape now...

In June, our theme was Pentecost - how, although we can't see the Holy Spirit, we can see the effects of the Spirit working in and through us. Our crafts/activities included flame crowns, a reflection tent with campfire, a balloon/cup challenge, flaming cup cakes and a helper's jewel box.

MessyMayCraft22052016Our theme was Ascension in May and we thought about when Jesus went back to be with God after he rose from the dead. We focussed on journeying and our crafts included making a bag to put things in (left), creating a kite and building a huge mountain.

In April we looked at the story of Peter and thought about love and forgiveness. We made a sheep mobile, mosaic fish, stone creatures, a woven heart and a fish magnet game!

In January and February we learnt about the stories of Noah and Joseph, and in March we listened to the sounds of Holy Week and Easter - we've seen how there are whispers of Jesus throughout the Bible, even when he's not obvious! So far this year, we've had fun with Where's Wally activities, made a rainbow / dove mobile (see the photo - didn't it look amazing?!)... created ark origami, a rainmaker, a book, yummy multicoloured biscuits, a dream-catcher, pom poms, Easter flowers, chocolate nests and donkey hooves!

Messy Church @ Hertford Carnival!
June 2015 - Hertford Castle

Did you visit us at Hertford Carnival? We were on the lawn in front of Hertford Castle with Messy activities for people to try. It was great fun on a lovely summer's day (after the rain passed)!

What a fabulous Messy Church we shared last April! Our theme was 'Jesus and Peter on the beach fishing' and everyone had such fun creating little boats, telescopes, a magnetic fishing game and other crafts. Alan got the youngsters involved in improvised drama (also featuring Horrid Henry and Simon Cowell!) and we were all able to share some prayer time together outside in the spring sunshine before tea. We could even learn to tie knots as well as climb aboard a real boat outside to discover what it would be like to set sail - how fantastic was that?!

Messy Church around the world...
There are Messy Churches all over the world - you can find out more about Messy Church and what it's like by clicking here.

When our theme was 'God Loves You'
one of things we created was a huge heart
made out of yogurt pots. This took pride
of place at St Andrew's Church - well done!
