Funerals and Memorial Services

When a loved one dies, a funeral gives those left behind the chance to both mourn and give thanks for the life of the deceased. A Christian funeral provides that opportunity, within the comfort of belief in a loving God and His promise of eternal life.

Funerals can take place at St Andrew’s or our ministers can lead a funeral service from a crematorium or cemetery. The first step is usually to talk to the funeral director who will then contact us. The minister would then agree the details of the service with you. There is a great deal of flexibility with regard to content, for example through poems and music.

Burial of ashes
St Andrew’s no longer has an open graveyard, so we cannot provide full burials. However, the ashes of a loved one can be buried within our grounds, with a short service provided by one of our ministers. Burials and burial of ashes may be possible in St Andrew's Cemetery (North Road, Hertford) if you have a family grave there.
Memorial services
Memorial services can be held in our church building, providing a chance to give thanks for your family member or friend using images, music, reading, prayer and in any other way that seems fitting. If you would like to organise a Memorial Service, please get in touch with Rev Alan, Bill or Wendy. This is a good option if it was not possible to hold a full funeral during the Covid-19 crisis, or for any other reason.

Here to help
Grief can stay with us for many years. We offer an annual service in November when we remember and name our dead, to which all are warmly invited. The church is also open for prayer during the day (details on this website), so you might like to light a candle or leave a prayer. And if you just need someone to talk to, then please do get in touch with one of our ministers.
